Rejuran Sydney: The Science of Skin Rejuvenation and Polynucleotides

With the introduction of this treatment I thought it would be a good time to break down the science behind Rejuran injections and how it's fast becoming one of Sydney's go-to treatments for advanced skin regeneration.

Rejuran is a regenerative skin treatment that uses polynucleotides (PNs) derived from salmon DNA to stimulate cellular repair and collagen production — repairing skin, boosting collagen, and improving skin texture, scarring, and fine lines. Originating from South Korea, one of the world's leading cosmetic medicine hubs, Rejuran has been widely used across Asia for its rejuvenating effects for over 10 years.

What Is Rejuran and How Does It Work?

Rejuran works by delivering highly purified polynucleotides directly into the dermis, where they trigger the skin's own repair mechanisms. Unlike fillers that add volume, Rejuran is a biological stimulator — it improves the skin from the inside out.

The treatment stimulates fibroblast activity to promote collagen and elastin synthesis, improves skin elasticity and texture, enhances the skin barrier, and reduces inflammation and oxidative stress at a cellular level. This is what makes Rejuran a treatment focused on true regeneration rather than surface-level correction.

What Are Polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides are DNA fragments with well-documented anti-inflammatory and tissue-repairing properties. The type used in Rejuran is highly purified and biocompatible — meaning it's safe for injection and well-tolerated by the skin.

Salmon DNA is used because its nucleotide sequence is highly compatible with human DNA, making it effective and well-tolerated. The polynucleotides are extensively purified to remove any proteins that could cause an immune response.

Who Can Benefit from Rejuran?

Rejuran is ideal for clients with fine lines and crepey skin, acne scarring, dull or uneven skin tone, thinning or ageing skin (especially under the eyes or on the neck), and inflammatory skin conditions such as post-acne redness or rosacea-prone skin.

It's also a popular preventative treatment for younger clients who want to maintain collagen density and slow the early signs of ageing before they become established.

Evidence and Clinical Results

Clinical studies have shown that PN-based skin boosters like Rejuran improve skin hydration, elasticity, and dermal thickness over time. A study published in the Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy (2016) found that Rejuran-treated skin showed significant improvement in elasticity and texture after just four sessions spaced two to four weeks apart.

Histological studies — examining skin tissue under a microscope — have confirmed measurable increases in dermal collagen density and fibroblast activity following treatment. The improvements are structural, not just superficial.

Treatment Overview

A typical Rejuran course involves three to four sessions spaced two to four weeks apart. Downtime is minimal — small injection bumps may be visible for 24 to 48 hours. Results are progressive, with optimal improvement visible after several weeks as the skin responds and rebuilds.

Rejuran pairs beautifully with treatments like skin needling or laser for enhanced results — something we discuss with each client individually during their consultation at our Redfern clinic.
