Rejuran Sydney: The Science of Skin Rejuvenation and Polynucleotides

With the introduction of Rejuran at The Rejuvenation Space, I wanted to take the time to break down the science behind this treatment — what it actually is, how it works, and why it's fast becoming one of Sydney's go-to options for advanced skin regeneration.

Rejuran is a regenerative skin treatment that uses polynucleotides (PNs) derived from highly purified salmon DNA to stimulate cellular repair, boost collagen production, and improve skin texture, scarring, and fine lines. Originating from South Korea — one of the world's leading cosmetic medicine hubs — Rejuran has been widely used across Asia for over a decade, and the clinical evidence behind it is compelling.

What Are Polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides are DNA fragments with well-documented anti-inflammatory and tissue-repairing properties. The polynucleotides used in Rejuran are highly purified and biocompatible — meaning they are safe for injection and well-tolerated by the skin.

When injected into the dermis, they get to work at a cellular level by stimulating fibroblast activity to promote collagen and elastin synthesis, improving skin elasticity and texture, enhancing the skin barrier, and reducing inflammation and oxidative stress.

This is what makes Rejuran a treatment focused on true regeneration — not surface-level correction.

Who Can Benefit from Rejuran?

Rejuran is suitable for a wide range of skin concerns. In our Sydney clinic, we most commonly recommend it for clients experiencing fine lines and crepey skin, acne scarring, dull or uneven skin tone, thinning or ageing skin (particularly under the eyes or on the neck), and inflammatory skin conditions such as post-acne redness or rosacea-prone skin.

It is also a popular preventative treatment for younger clients who want to maintain collagen density and slow the early signs of ageing before they become established.

What Does the Evidence Say?

Clinical studies have shown that PN-based skin boosters like Rejuran improve skin hydration, elasticity, and dermal thickness over time. A study published in the Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy (2016) found significant improvements in skin elasticity and texture after just four sessions spaced two to four weeks apart.

Histological studies — examining skin tissue under a microscope — have confirmed measurable increases in dermal collagen density and fibroblast activity following treatment. The improvements are structural, not just superficial.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

Rejuran is administered via a series of small injections into the dermis. The appointment takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes. Some clients notice mild redness and small injection-site bumps immediately after treatment — these typically resolve within 24 to 48 hours.

Results build progressively over several weeks as the skin responds. We typically recommend three to four sessions spaced two to four weeks apart for optimal results, followed by maintenance treatments every six to twelve months.

Rejuran pairs beautifully with skin needling or other regenerative treatments for enhanced outcomes — something we discuss with each client individually during consultation.

Rejuran vs. Filler: An Important Distinction

Rejuran is not a filler. It does not add volume or alter facial structure. It is a biological stimulator — it works by improving the skin from the inside out, encouraging the skin to produce more of its own collagen and repair itself at a cellular level.

If you are looking to address fine lines, texture irregularities, or post-acne scarring with a scientifically-backed treatment that supports long-term skin health, Rejuran may be the right addition to your skin journey.
